- The Easyest thing to do, which I just did is Buy the DataflyerXDS It's a
- External Case to Instal a 3.5" IDE Drive into. It includes all the Cables, No
- HACKING of anything. You can also still use a Internal 2.5" drive if you
- want. It has a Long 50 Pin ribbon cable, 44 of them are used for the 2 44 pin
- IDE Plugs, 1 Plugs into the IDE Header of the A1200, the other for the 2.5"
- IDE drive you may have, or not use at all. Then the other 6 wires are
- doubled up, 2 for each of the 3 Power connections, which you remove your
- Floppy drive Plug, and Power Plug Plugs into the A1200 and the floppy drive.
- Then the 50 pin ribbon Cable exits your Amiga, from whereever, I have it
- comming out the Back, and it plugs into the Back of the External Case, where
- it Plugs into the Board on the inside of the case, On that Board is a 44 Pin
- IDE Plug for if you want to add another Dataflyer XDS and run that Cable to
- the other case. There's also another conector which is for the 3.5" drive,
- which it's 40 pin connector. Plus the Standered 4 pin Power Plug. Just to let
- you know, the Cables for a 40 pin IDE drive and a 44 Pin IDE drive are
- differnt, SIZE WIZE. You'll have a hard time trying to hack a 40 Pin plug
- onto a 44 pin cable and have it work right.
-
- The Case also has a External Power Connetion, just in case the drive needs
- more power then your Amiga can output, though the Manual says it's highly
- unlikly you would need to use it.
-
- I have a Stock A1200 Power supply, yet I have a GVP 030/50mzh board with a
- 68882/50Mzh FPU. 2 4 meg SIMMS, and a Dataflyer SCSI+ board. With a High
- Density Internal Floppy Drive, and a Low Density External floppy drive. I
- have no problems with my 3.5" 1083 meg IDE drive that I'm using.
-
- The case is made by Expantion System, called the DataflyerXDS. Cost around
- $70 US. It's Much easyer to setup, None of that hacking, and having the hard
- drive just sitting there in the A1200 screwing something up because it's can't
- be mounted inside to stay put. They have Great support. I screwed up the
- Extention plug on my SCSI+ from them, i called them up, told them what
- happened, and they're sending me a new one free of charge. No questions
- asked. Even though I had bought the board USED! If only that was true with
- other companys.
